Smarter Than That

Bella and two of her classmates won First Place in their school’s science fair yesterday! She brought home her blue ribbon and as we admired it, we talked about how much she’s changed as a student over the years. She was distracted and apt to lie about having homework just a couple of years ago. This year, she’s maintained an A/B average and is currently testing for placement in the gifted program at school. We tell her all the time how proud we are of her that she’s turned things around and has become so devoted to her education. I reminded her yesterday that she can be anything she wants to be.

Bella: “I know, right? For a while I thought I’d just end up having a bunch of kids like you but now I know I’m smarter than that.”
